2019 "Data Intelligent Management" Academic Seminar Concludes Successfully

On July 9, the "2019 Data Intelligent Management Academic Seminar," hosted by the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) Big Data Alliance and organized by Beijing Intcube Technology Co., Ltd., was successfully held. The seminar brought together dozens of experts, researchers, and practitioners from government agencies, academic institutions, and large-to-medium-sized enterprises, including chairpersons, presidents, chief financial officers, and operations directors. Professor Zhinhua Xie, a management accounting expert from the Ministry of Finance and Vice President of Beijing Technology and Business University, presided over the academic conference. Professor Bin Ke from the National University of Singapore and Mr. Zhihong Cai, General Manager of Beijing Intcube Technology Co., Ltd., served as keynote speakers, engaging in in-depth discussions and exchanges on how enterprises can achieve data intelligent management.

Jack Ma once mentioned at the 2016 Yunqi Conference: "Past development was based on oil and coal, while future technological development will rely on new energy—that is, data." Leveraging massive enterprise data to achieve intelligent management represents an enhancement of enterprise management innovation. Against this backdrop, what kind of data does enterprise intelligent management require? What needs to be done after acquiring data? How should it be done? Addressing these questions, Professor Bin Ke, Provost and Distinguished Professor at the National University of Singapore Business School, provided detailed answers during the seminar.

Professor Bin Ke, who enjoys a prestigious reputation in North American accounting academic research and is the inaugural president of the Chinese American Professors in Accounting Association (CAPANA), has recently focused particularly on research into accounting information quality, executive compensation, corporate governance, and investor protection in the context of China's transitional economy and emerging markets. Professor Bin Ke believes that, as Jack Ma stated, big data is the "new energy" of the new era. The process of enterprise digitalization involves leveraging new technologies to achieve intelligent management through big data integration, evolving from solely financial statement data to integrating non-financial information (product quality, customer relationships, strategic human resources, information technology, etc.), and ultimately achieving the integration, cleaning, and mining analysis of all enterprise data. This enhances business efficiency and drives management innovation.

In this process, enterprise digital transformation relies not only on new technologies but also requires timely shifts in management philosophy. Human-centric digital management is the future trend. Professor Bin Ke pointed out that the big data era brings both opportunities and challenges to enterprises and individuals. For domestic enterprises, achieving intelligent data management requires four key elements: theoretical guidance, diverse talent, a distinct corporate culture, and data accumulation and utilization. The "Balanced Scorecard" provides the theoretical foundation and standards for intelligent data management. Data scientists who combine data analysis results with actual business models, along with management accounting/financial analysis talent, are critical to enterprise development. The IT department should no longer merely serve as a technical support function but should become a department capable of providing reliable, efficient, and accurate data-driven decision analysis.

Data intelligent management emphasizes mining the value of "data assets," which also imposes requirements on the application of enterprise management software. Mr. Zhihong Cai, General Manager of Beijing Intcube Technology Co., Ltd., pointed out that in the past, the design of some traditional domestic management software often "emphasized process over management." While electronic office automation was achieved, its functions primarily simulated business document styles and processes, essentially upgrading offline processes to paperless handling. However, data across various business systems remained isolated, with ERP, OA, HR, CRM, and financial software operating as independent process systems based on relational databases. In recent years, as enterprise management needs have continuously evolved, companies have begun to recognize the value of data analysis for management and development. Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) systems, represented by Intcube EPM, provide technical means for innovation in enterprise data management.

Unlike traditional management software designed on relational databases, the core technology of EPM systems requires multidimensional databases. Through multidimensional modeling, a digital model of enterprise operations and business rules for management indicator calculations are established. Via "digital twins," enterprise business management is transformed from static to dynamic, integrating financial systems, supply chain management, human resources, OA, CRM, and other business systems to avoid information silos. Real-time data linkage enables integrated digital management encompassing data generation, modeling and collection, analysis and early warning, and decision support.

Mr. Zhihong Cai summarized the ultimate blueprint for enterprise data intelligent management as "analyzing the past, controlling the present, and planning the future." As "data assets" gradually become a core competitiveness, a full understanding and effective utilization of data value will not only change the work content of financial personnel but also impact the future management and development of enterprises.

Intcube EPM integrates four key links: comprehensive budget management, enterprise performance management, process control, and business intelligence presentation. The seamless connectivity of various enterprise data not only improves decision-making efficiency but also helps managers achieve the digital implementation of strategic management.

Professor Zhinhua Xie commented on the speeches by Professor Bin Ke and General Manager Zhihong Cai, noting that Professor Bin Ke's innovative theory on data intelligent management and General Manager Zhihong Cai's practical tools for big data management can be creatively combined to solve previously unaddressed issues in management accounting, such as the lack of implementation methods and standardized indicators. This is expected to make significant contributions to the development of China's management accounting industry.

Mr. Xiaoyong Yang, Director of Beijing Intcube Technology Co., Ltd., emphasized, "Enabling decision-makers such as chairpersons and presidents to work only two hours a month, freeing up leadership time for more important tasks, is the goal of Intcube EPM!"

The seminar saw deep engagement and presentations from Mr. Jiacheng Wang, Chairman of Zhongcheng Hualong; Mr. Jingwu Wang, Partner of Xinjiang Belt and Road Energy Fund; Mr. Nan Zeng, Chairman of Xinda Yueshang; and Mr. Hongwei Dong, Partner of Gongjiao Junding Private Equity Fund. Representatives from companies including Ernst & Young, Taiji Computer Corporation, China Software Network, University of International Business and Economics, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Yunce Technology, Beijing Yingdian Technology Co., Ltd., and Jianghe Cloud also participated in the seminar.
